Mid Summer Fishing Update.......

Finally!  A mid summer fishing update!
Well, we have been quite steady here at the camp with many fisherman coming through and a lot of family groups as well.   About half of our guests seem to be doing some serious fishing lately, the other half are doing some serious relaxing!
Water levels are back down to normal, possibly even a little below normal on some of the lakes.   We have been getting a few significant showers this past week, that may bring the lakes up a bit.
The walleyes are biting good and steady.   I was out doing some smallmouth fishing on the Floods this week and and decided to try for a few walleyes later in the day, caught about 20 fish myself in about an hour and a half.    I imagine I happened to hit them at one of the peak feeding times of the day.
Crankbaits have been working quite well on many of the lakes for walleye, otherwise leeches, minnows or crawlers are doing the trick quite consistently.
The smallmouth action has picked up a bit lately too.   Catches of 50-75 fish are about normal right now (per day per boat), we did have one group this past week report one day of just short of 100 fish per boat - there was 2 boats in the group.   Topwater has been doing excellent, as well as  Senkos.   Hopefully the may fly hatches are about over, as the past 3-4 weeks we have been having hatches occur off and on.
Pike action has been excellent on the lakes with good pike numbers.  30-50 fish a day are being caught, per boat, for the few that are going after them.
Not a lot of fisherman are after lake trout lately, the few that have been going out after them having been doing well, especially with down riggers.
The big Atikokan Bass tournament on Marmion is the 17th and 18th this year, so go to www.atikokanbassclassic.com to check it out!  110 teams will be fishing for about $50,000 in prizes.   It really demonstrates how excellent the Marmion/floodwaters fishery is for perhaps the biggest bass in Northern Ontario.   Catches of 18-22 pounds / 5 fish limit are not uncommon.

A quick thanks to all the groups who have scheduled a vacation stay with us so far this season, and for the rest of you out there that are still scheduled to come, we look forward to seeing you arrive!!
